Although it may be tempting to miss workouts during this pandemic, public health officials say that exercise is essential for your physical and mental health. Here's why you should stay active and how you can exercise safely.
Exercise boosts the immune system:
Research shows that exercise has immune boosting benefits that may help your body fight off viruses, including COVID-19.
Exercise reduces stress and anxiety:
Exercise helps chronic depression by increasing serotonin or brain derived neurotrophic factor (which helps the neurons to grow). Exercise increases endorphins, which are natural mood lifters. Exercise limits the effect of stress on your brain.
Exercise helps you sleep:
Exercise helps by getting sleep patterns back to normal. Good sleep is essential for protecting the brain from damage.
Exercise virtually with friends:
Try working out on zoom. I offer many classes listed on my group exercise schedule page. We support each other and have a good time. If your feeling lonely this is a great way to workout and connect with people.
Exercise outside:
For even greater benefits, try exercising outdoors. Some recent studies have found that people have a higher level of energy, enthusiasm, happiness and self-esteem after walking outside. If you go out in nature on a hike, people report a lower level of stress, depression and fatigue. Grab some vitamin D while your out there.
